This is a collection of over 700 South Carolina county road maps from 1930s to the 1990s, courtsey of the University of South Carolina Thomas Cooper Map Collection.

South Carolina Historical Society Oral Histories

Interviews with Charlestonians of various backgrounds, recorded in the 1970s and 1980s. The subjects talk about growing up in Charleston and cover such topics as preservation, race relations, the Exposition of 1901, and Charleston's involvement in World War I and World War II.

SC Library Buildings Collection

The South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Digital Library present the South Carolina Library Buildings Collection, a collection of images of public library buildings in the state from the 1940s-1970s.
The photographs are from the archives of the South Carolina State Library and many were taken by State Library field agents. Topics include exterior views of headquarter and branch locations, interior views, and construction.

The South Caroliniana Library has been collecting photographs of train stations, depots, rail yards, engines, and rolling stock for many years. The images come in as single items, as part of other collections, or as collections of their own. There are also photographs of railways used by the mining and lumber industries. Presented here are photographs pulled from different sources to provide the researcher with a virtual collection of South Carolina railway related photographs.

 

SC School Directories

Since 1911 the South Carolina State Department of Education has published a yearly directory of schools in the state. Information catalogued in each issue is different; some issues include school and district information, Department of Education staff and programs, listings of private schools and colleges, statistics, and state educational associations. These directories provide valuable information about the school buildings and educational leaders in a community. The issues available are from 1912-2010.

SC State Library Under Construction

The South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Digital Library present the South Carolina State Library Construction Collection, a collection of images of the construction of the State Library building from 1969-1970.

Standard Federal Photographs, Columbia SC

This comprehensive set of Columbia area images includes 146 prints from periods ranging from 1865 to 1980. The collection was amassed from various long time photographers in the community such as John A. Sargeant, Charles Old and Walter Blanchard. They operated studios in the city from the period c. 1915 through 1960. The images include street scenes, buildings, special activities, and related subjects. Most of the collection consists of copies from original prints. It was donated to the SC State Museum in 1988.

The Catawba Indian collection was created using slides and photographs from the Native American Studies Archive at USC Lancaster. Many of the photographs and slides depict the Catawba reservation, pottery, people, and buildings.

The Citadel Oral History Program

The Citadel Oral History Program seeks to deepen understanding of the Lowcountry's rich history and culture through the gathering and presentation of recorded memories from area residents. This collection currently houses a sample of interviews from the following series: Charleston and the Long Civil Rights Movement, Working Charleston, Women in World War II; and, The Citadel in War and in Peace.
